Bank stocks were mostly up on Friday, as the Dow Jones industrial average gained 11.23 points to close at 3285.35.
Shares of Sun Trust Banks Inc. led the gainers, rising $1.375 to $39.875, partly making up for losses earlier last week. Shares of Bancorp Hawaii Inc., also regained some ground, advancing 87.5 cents to 43.875.
Firstar Corp. lost 75 cents, to close at $58.25.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
After several quarters of slumping investment banking and trading fees, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company reported a big uptick from that division, which helped compensate for a large decline in net interest income.
