NatWest exec plans a more varied menu.

Edward T. Koch, the new chief investment officer in National Westminster Bancorp's private clients and investment management group, wants to increase the investment choices his bank offers clients.

Mr. Koch, 55, was named two months ago to the new created post to help NatWest expand its private banking and trust business in New York and New Jersey.

He is focusing on broadening the types of commingled funds used to manage money in the trust operation. He also aims to work more closely with National Westminster PLC, the bank's London-based holding company, on international investment projects.

"The situation at NatWest is what I call a building situation," Mr. Koch said.

NatWest has been expanding its private banking and trust operation throughout the metropolitan New York area in an effort to more than double the assets it manages for wealthy clients, to $5 billion.

Before moving to NatWest, Mr. Koch was chief investment officer at New Jersey's First Fidelity Bancorp. At NatWest, he oversees investment policy in the private banking and trust groups and reports to Susan Rau, the executive vice president who oversees the division.
