WASHINGTON - The House yesterday approved, 322 to 81, an energy and water appropriations bill containing $640 million in funding for the termination of the $11 billion Super-conducting Super Collider.
Final approval of the measure followed a close vote of 227 to 190 approving the collider's closeout funding, which was contained in a separate amendment to the bill. Earlier this year, the House twice voted by large margins to terminate the collider with only $220 million of closeout funding.
The $22 billion appropriations bill now goes to the Senate for action. President Bill Clinton, a collider supporter, is expected to sign the measure.
