N.J. unveils interstate bill for its thrifts.

NEWPORT, R.I. - New Jersey Banking Commissioner Jeff Connor unveiled an interstate branching bill for savings banks chartered in his state.

The bill was drafted with the New Jersey Council of Savings Institutions and announced at its convention in Newport.

"This bill will allow New Jersey savings banks to do what the federal savings and loan associations already are permitted to do - branch on an interstate basis," Mr. Connor said.
