Rates paid on annuities up slightly in June.

After four straight months of declines, rates paid on annuities sold through banks edged up slightly in June.

The average rate paid on annuities rose to 5.17%, from 5.13% in May. The bonus rate offered to new buyers rose to 6.02%, from 6.01%.

Seven Offered Higher Rates

Kenneth Kehrer Associates, a consulting firm in Princeton, N.J., calculates the averages based on a survey of leading annuity companies. Of 34 annuities covered by the survey, seven offered higher rates and four offered lower rates. Rates were unchanged on the 23 remaining annuities.
