Florida Informanagement Services Inc., a data processor and provider of mortgage software, has entered into a licensing agreement to market Protocorp International's document-imaging and data archival software under a private label.
That means that the 300 bank clients that currently use FIS for outsourcing of data processing will now have access to Protocorp's PCI/File Folder and PCI/Reports Archival software. FIS also has the right to market the technology to future clients.
PCI/File Folder enables banks to store new account information and other data from FIS mainframes on optical disk. The bank's paper files can also be scanned or imported into the program for storage. Bank officers can then use their personal computers to retrieve information and respond to customer queries.
Clients' Choice
With PCI/Reports Archival, FIS can download daily report information from its host system to client PCs. Clients can store the data on optical disk drives and index the information any way they like.
The programs aims to reduce operating costs by eliminating paper and microfiche, said FIS officials.
The programs support both DOS and Windows environments. This allows financial institutions to upgrade older computers gradually to higher Windows requirements, without limiting their ability to use the programs, said Protocorp officials.
"Many of the first-generation systems installed in institutions have become obsolete because they are restricted to one operating environment," said Ken Long, president and chief executive officer of Protocorp. "Our second-generation systems allow an institution to reengineer their backroom operations, regardless of which operating environment supports them."
Users Listed
Other users of PCI/Reports include Twin City Bank of Central Arkansas, Imperial Bank in Los Angeles, First American Bank of Elk Grove, and Intrust Bank of Wichita. PC/File Folder is running at Central Jersey Bank in Freehold, with other installations under way.
The software programs are available from all FIS data centers, located in Orlando, Baton Rouge, La., and Thomson, Ga.
Protocorp will initially be responsible for implementing and supporting the systems installed at FIS, as well as providing customer training. FIS will gradually assume greater servicing responsibilities.
