Texas.

Voters in the Arlington school district have approved a $118.3 million bond package to build new classrooms and schools as well as make other improvements.

In the Saturday bond election, the voters approved three propositions with approximately 59% for and 41% against.

Proposals approved are:

* $97.5 million for new schools and equipment.

* $12 million for remodeling.

* $8.8 million for new classroom technology, including computers.

The debt-financed projects will help one of Texas' largest school districts cope with rapid growth in the student population, which is predicted to grow by about 10,000 by the turn of the century. The district is located between Dallas and Fort Worth in the mid-cities region, which is among the fast-growing areas in north Texas.

In another bond election in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Saturday, Flower Mound residents overwhelming rejected a bond package that called for spending $7.4 million for park and recreation projects.
