B of A names top execs for merged entity.

BankAmerica Corp. and Continental Bank Corp. have named senior executives to fill key corporate banking posts when the two banks merge later this year.

The appointments were announced Tuesday in an internal newsletter obtained by the American Banker.

Insiders at both banks said the appointments were made in an evenhanded way, and contained no real surprises. The next level of appointments, expected within the next few weeks, will involve areas where there are more overlaps.

"That's when it gets interesting," said one banker.

Corporate Banking Chief

As reported, the combined U.S. corporate banking business of the two banks will be run by Continental vice chairman Michael Murray.

Reporting to Mr. Murray from the West Coast will be B of A executives Tim Bottoms, Jerry Fair, Doug Pratt, and John Shannahan. Aniruddha Roy, recently put in charge of B of A's New York office, will be responsible for the eastern region.

Mr. Bottoms will be responsible for special industry clients and project finance; Mr. Fair will be in charge of the Southern California region and clients in the entertainment and media industries; Mr. Pratt will handle the Northwest region and high-technology industry clients, and Mr. Shannahan will continue as senior credit officer.

Heartland Appointment

Continental's Bob Muehlhauser, based in Chicago, will be responsible for the Midwest, Mideast, Southeast, and Southwest regions.

Zed Francis will run capital markets and mergers and acquisitions, Bob Griffin will run leveraged finance and syndications, and Dave Halstead will oversee a number of areas, including private placements, securitizations, fixed income, and short-term finance.
