Card briefs: Inforite Corp. Offers Electronic Signature Pad

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Inforite Corp. has introduced a signature pad that can be used at the point of sale.

The pressure-sensitive Inforite IFC2000 helps eliminate the need for paper receipts by electronically capturing and storing customers' signatures at the point of sale, the company said.

The system features a function that automatically reduces signatures to as little as one-eighth the original size, minimizing storage requirements and transmission costs. Approximately 200 signatures and related data can be stored before retrieval is necessary.

After the retailer swipes a card through a reader, the customer signs the pad with a non-electronic stylus. A screen displays the signature.
