Barnett and Alliance Hire Mortgage Veterans to Head Originations

veterans to run loan origination operations. Barnett Mortgage Co. has hired Hugh B. Haston 3d as executive vice president to run its retail and wholesale operations. Mr. Haston was senior vice president at GE Capital Mortgage Co., in charge of corporate sales. In his most recent position at GE, Mr. Haston oversaw the sales force that offers the mortgage company's products to its correspondent and mortgage insurance customers. He said that despite his lack of direct experience in the retail, telemarketing, and affinity areas, Barnett was attracted by his diverse background. "They like the strategic view I have rather than the pure origination viewpoint," Mr. Haston said. Mr. Haston said he was sorry to leave the General Electric Capital Corp. mortgage unit, where he spent 15 years, but looks forward to working for Barnett and returning to his hometown of Jacksonville. Separately, Alliance Mortgage Co. hired David Ennis as executive vice president in charge of production. Mr. Ennis' background includes stints as regional marketing director of Amerin Guaranty Corp., chief executive of Boatmen's Mortgage Co., and chief operating officer of Equitable Mortgage Resources Inc. "Because of his experience and proven management record, David was an ideal choice to lead our loan production business," said Alliance president Gary Meeks. "He understands not only the traditional approach to loan origination but how our industry will operate in the future." Alliance has been in a growth mode lately. It opened a new retail office in Montgomery, Ala., last month, and purchased Park Avenue Mortgage, Orange Park, Fla., in May. At the time, an Alliance executive said the acquisition fit in with the company's goal of growth in the retail lending market. Alliance, which services about $5 billion in residential mortgages, was purchased by an investor group in June 1994. The investor group included the chairman of Computer Power Inc. That firm, now the mortgage division of Alltel Information Services Inc., is one of the largest suppliers of computer support and technology to the home lending industry.
