Fleet Appoints Stock, Derivatives Director

Peter Murphy van der Velde won't be assuming full-time responsibilities at Fleet Investment Advisors until Jan. 2. But last week, he began to oversee an assessment of the unit's resources and capabilities. Fleet Investment Advisors is the arm of Fleet responsible for personal and institutional financial investment management. After the merger with Shawmut, Fleet Investment Advisors will manage about $45 billion in assets. Mr. Van der Velde was president of Bantam Management Inc., Boston, an investment management company he founded in 1993. Bantam focused primarily on U.S. equities and fixed-income markets, along with futures and derivatives related to those markets.
