In Briefs: AFL-CIO Drops PHH As Mortgage Originator

MT. LAUREL, N.J. - PHH Mortgage Services, a unit of PHH US Mortgage Corp., announced that it would no longer originate mortgages for the AFL- CIO.

The company said that relationship, which resulted in loans of $840 million since 1991, had been terminated by mutual agreement. H. Robert Nagel, president of the services unit, said the union wanted to shift to a branch-office system rather than use PHH's centralized telemarketing.

The branch system would provide union members with access to FHA loans and community bond programs, which are not available through the centralized system, a union spokesman said.
