MAC's Parent Reorganizes to Ease Execs' Communication with Clients

Electronic Payment Services Inc., operator of the MAC electronic banking network, has undergone an organizational restructuring as a means of getting closer to its customers.

Under the newly implemented plan, eight business directors will report directly to chief marketing officer John F. Beahn, who also has oversight responsibility for the MAC network.

"Our objective is to flatten the organization so communication between our customers and our executives can be more direct," said a spokeswoman for the Wilmington, Del.-based company.

In a move the company characterizes as unrelated, MAC's president, John R. Beran, recently stepped down to become chief information officer at Comerica Inc. in Detroit. His position will not be filled.

"We were working on the restructuring well before he (Mr. Beran) left," said the spokeswoman. "In fact, he helped develop the new plan."

The eight directors who now report to Mr. Beahn:

*Phil Valvardi, who oversees client relations for the MAC network.

*Linda Tecco, who manages client services, and is charged with ensuring the highest possible level of customer service for MAC's member financial institutions.

*Denise Lewis, who, as head of client implementations, works on conversions and installations of new technology.

*Paul Weston, who runs product delivery.

*Mike Strada, who heads up gateway services.

*Melinda Mercurio, who supervises marketing and communications.

*Steve Dawe, who handles business development.

*Kevin Bradford, who leads the corporate development group.
