Huntington Unit Tests 911 System for ATMs

Huntington National Bank, Columbus, Ohio, has installed a 911 emergency communications system on the automated teller machines in its automated branch.

The bank will be installing 911 buttons on three ATMs at randomly selected sites throughout Columbus within the next 60 days in a pilot test.

After six to eight months, the bank plans to evaluate the test results and may install 911 buttons on ATMs throughout its network.

The emergency system, called SafeAlert and supplied by Ocean Springs, Miss.-based North American Communications Corp., has been installed by banks in 32 states. The system is used by Wells Fargo, First Union, Colorado National, and Star Bank.

Also, Huntington has bought a mobile bank office equipped with an ATM to serve low-income customers in the Cincinnati area.
