Card Briefs: French Firm Hires Smart Card Veteran

Joseph F. Schuler, who recently resigned his post at National City Corp.'s Stored Value Systems, has been recruited by Schlumberger.

The former smart card consultant, most recently senior vice president of business and marketing for Louisville-based Stored Value Systems, took the job of director of sales and marketing at Schlumberger Smart Cards and Systems in early June.

Mr. Schuler replaces Michael H. Smith, now director of marketing at Schlumberger Danyl in Moorestown, N.J. Schlumberger plans to move its U.S. headquarters from Chesapeake, Va. to Moorestown.

Mr. Schuler said the French-owned company, through some key acquisitions, can provide a complete smart card system for the U.S. market.

"Our biggest problem is bringing on talented people to deal with all the business that we're currently working on, he said."
