Cards Briefs: Various Systems Installed for Banksys

Vicorp said it has installed several systems for the Belgian bank processing company Banksys, including a technical help desk and fully automated credit card authorization.

The contract was valued at about $600,000 for the Belgian unit of Vicorp, a subsidiary of Precision Systems.

Banksys, a joint venture of the major Belgian banks, resulted from the 1989 merger of the Bancontact and Mister Cash electronic funds transfer networks, and has expanded into other areas of back-office and network support. It also developed the Proton electronic purse system using smart cards.

Banksys, which handles card management and authorizations for the Belgian Eurocard, MasterCard, and Visa programs, worked with Vicorp on an automated voice response system and a help desk service for automated supervision of 56,000 payment terminals. Each system was designed and installed in less than two months.
