Short Takes: Jackson National Hires Sales Exec from Rival

Jackson National Life Insurance Co., an aggressive pursuer of banks, has lured a top sales executive from a rival.

The Lansing, Mich.-based insurance underwriter has hired Curt Ives, formerly a vice president at Keyport Life Insurance Co., to sell products to banks in the Northwest. At Keyport, Mr. Ives covered banks in the Northeast.

As a Jackson National vice president, Mr. Ives will move to Portland, Ore., and sell in Oregon, Alaska, Northern California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. He fills a slot left vacant when a sales executive transferred to a different division within the company, said J. Bradley Powell, president of Jackson's Atlanta-based institutional marketing group.

"That gave me a chance to get Curt," said Mr. Powell, who many years ago headed Keyport's bank division.
