Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, promoted Maria Elena Lagomasino to  senior managing director and head of the global private banking group. 
  
She is to assume control of worldwide private banking services,  succeeding Arjun K. Mathrani, senior managing director of the asset   management and private banking group, who has said he would leave the   company at yearend.     
Ms. Lagomasino had been a managing director in charge of private banking  for the Americas. 
  
She joined Chase in 1983 as manager and division executive in Chase  Private Banking International. In 1989 she was promoted to area executive   for the Western Hemisphere. In 1994 she was named market executive for the   Americas. When Chase merged with Chemical Banking Corp. last year, she was   given the additional duty of U.S. private banking.
