In Brief: U.K. Executive Tapped For U.S. Post at HFC

Household International has named the head of its United Kingdom bank to succeed Robert F. Elliot as group head of HFC, its U.S. consumer finance business.

The appointment of Gary Gilmer to the U.S. post will take effect in January, the company said Tuesday.

Mr. Elliot, who had been expected to retire at the beginning of the year will stay on until the end of 1998 as vice chairman of Household International, the company said. Mr. Elliot is a 33-year veteran of the company.

Mr. Gilmer, chief executive of HFC Bank PLC, has been with HFC since 1972, in a variety of management positions.

Adrian Hill, chief operating officer of HFC Bank PLC, will succeed Mr. Gilmer. Mr. Hill has been with the bank since 1972, and most recently he served as chief financial officer.
