People's Bancshares Names Executive

NEW ENGLAND

People's Bancshares, New Bedford, Mass., has hired Richard S. Straczynski as president and chief executive officer.

He succeeds John Williams, who resigned a few months ago-to pursue other business interests, according to Frederick W. Adami, People's chairman. The bank had been going through an executive search since Mr. Williams left.

Mr. Straczynski had been president and chief operating officer at Hibernia Savings Bank of Quincy since 1995. He was a regional president of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts from 1993 to 1995, and before that a regional president at the Bank of New England, now part of Fleet Financial Group.

Earlier, Mr. Straczynski had been president and CEO of Plymouth Home National Bank until Bank of New England acquired it in 1987.

People's Bancshares has $495.9 million of assets.
