Short Takes: Investment Trade GroupLaunches Fund Web Site

The Investment Company Institute last week unveiled a public policy site on the World Wide Web, designed to offer information on legislative, regulatory, and economic developments affecting mutual funds and investors.

Known as the ICI Mutual Fund Connection, the page (www.ici.org) offers links to related sites on the Web, including those of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the National Association of Securities Dealers. The site will also carry statistics on topics such as inflows into various types of funds.

The project is part of the trade group's effort to educate fund shareholders. The institute is producing video news releases emphasizing investor education and is working with industry executives on media tours that focus on improving shareholder knowledge.

"I have no doubt that in the future, there will be difficult markets and adverse events," institute president Matthew P. Fink told the group's annual convention last week. "We must do all we can now to educate our shareholders as to the risks, as well as rewards, of investing."
