The Senate Banking Committee announced the witnesses for its next two hearings on financial reform legislation.

Today's hearing will feature five consumer advocates:

Ralph Nader; Mary Griffen of Consumers Union and the Consumer Federation of America; Edmund Mierzwinski of the U.S. Public Interest Research Group; Allen Fishbein of the Center for Community Change; and John Taylor with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.

Eight federal and state regulators are to testify at Thursday's hearing. Donna Tanoue is to make her first congressional appearance as chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. She will be joined by Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt, Acting Comptroller of the Currency Julie L. Williams, and Office of Thrift Supervision Director Ellen Seidman.

The states will be represented by Delaware Banking Commissioner Timothy R. McTaggart and Kentucky Insurance Commissioner George Nichols 3d, among others.

These will be the third and fourth Senate Banking hearings on financial reform.
