In Brief: 30-Year Mortgage Rate At Record Low, 6.64%

The 30-year mortgage rate hit a record low last week, Freddie Mac said.

The average rate fell to 6.64%, down 2 basis points from the previous week, which also had been a record.

Freddie Mac has been tracking interest rates since 1967.

The steady slide in rates since August is expected to push annual origination volume to a record this year, including a heavy volume of refinancings.

The average 15-year rate last week was 6.35%, its lowest since October 1993, Freddie Mac said.

One-year Treasury-indexed mortgages averaged 5.432% last week, versus 5.51% a year earlier.

The Southwest had the lowest rates in the nation, Freddie Mac said. Thirty-year rates in the region averaged 6.57% last week; 15-year rates, 6.23%.
