Short Takes: Insurance Shopping Added to E-Trade Site

E-Trade Group Inc. is letting consumers comparison-shop for insurance on its Web site.

The new service permits comparision of automobile and term life insurance prices from 19 companies. Homeowners insurance and individual health and medical policies may be added, E-trade said.

Consumers can also use interactive tools on the site to help evaluate their insurance needs and research up to 6,000 carriers.

"E-Trade wants to become a one-stop destination site for personal financial services," a spokesman said.

E-Trade has partnered with InsWeb of Redwood City, Calif., an Internet- based marketing service for insurance companies. E-Trade, of Palo Alto, Calif., provides on-line investing services.
