Tech Bytes: Irish Firm Upgrades Certification Software

Technologies announced the release of Unicert 2.2, an upgrade of the 2.0 version that made the Dublin, Ireland, company a leader in digital certification technology.

The enhancements in the certification authority software include the ability to do registration and enrollment from remote computers, automatic notification to users when their certificates are about to expire, and the ability to customize certificates beyond the minimum requirements of standard protocols such as SET, SSL, and S/MIME.

Version 2.2 also has a wider range of hardware options. For example, the Gemplus GPK4000 smart cards can be used in certificate operations.

Now "any system can be enabled to utilize a public key infrastructure," said Baltimore chief executive officer Fran Rooney. "Additionally, our automatic enrollment system leverages existing bank systems such as PINs and code words to provide a digital-certificate-based infrastructure."

In another development at the recent RSA Data Security conference, Baltimore announced six reseller relationships: NetVision in Belgium, Context Systems Group in Italy, ATOS in Italy, Centaur in Germany, Intercede in the United Kingdom, and Priority Data Systems in Ireland and the United States.
