Intranet: BankBoston Links Internet, Telephone

bankboston launched Call Now, a service that enables consumers to connect immediately with a sales associate in the bank's 24-hour telebanking center from its Web site to open an account.

The integration of BankBoston's Web site with its customer service center is intended to lure new business from consumers who like conducting their banking on the Internet. The service also brings a greater degree of personalization to Internet banking, says BankBoston's Patricia Capello, director of consumer payments and state marketing.

To open an account, a consumer clicks on the Call Now icon and types in a telephone number. Within seconds, bank officials say, the consumer receives a telephone call from a bank sales associate. The service is made possible by AT&T interactiveAnswers Service, a network-based technology that integrates call centers with the Internet. FB
