Tech Bytes: Net.Bank Joins Service For Military Personnel

Net.Bank has joined the Armed Forces Financial Network to serve U.S. military personnel around the world.

Beginning this summer members of the network will be able to gain access to Internet banking services in addition to the 30,000 automated teller machines the network already supports in the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and on two aircraft carriers.

The Armed Forces Financial Network formed its own international ATM and point of sale network in 1985, which it manages and operates. Electronic Data Systems Corp. acts as the data-switch provider.

Bringing Internet banking services to network members "gives its customers the ability to manage their finances when they go on assignment," said Larry Borden, vice president of the Tampa-based Armed Forces Financial Network.

Net.Bank would also give the network's members access to other services such as mortgages, loans, brokerage, and credit cards.
