McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen LLP, a San Francisco-based law firm, has hired a Bank of America senior counsel, Venrice R. Palmer.

Mr. Palmer will have the rank of counsel in the firm's financial services practice group.

He had joined Bank of America in San Francisco in 1997 and was an adviser on its 1998 merger with NationsBank Corp.

Before that he was a senior counsel with Sears Roebuck and Co. of Hoffman Estates, Ill., focusing on securities and corporate law when the retailer expanded into consumer financial services. He worked at Sears for 12 years, starting in 1985.

Earlier Mr. Palmer was a special trial counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission in New York, and still earlier a special assistant in the New York State Attorney General's office.
