Tech Bytes: Internet Access Firm Hires Wells Veteran

Michael G. Parks, a former senior technology executive at Wells Fargo & Co., has been named chief information officer of NorthPoint Communications, a provider of high-speed Internet access lines.

Reporting to president and chief operations officer Elizabeth A. Fetter, Mr. Parks is responsible for information technology strategy and for maintaining and developing systems to support billing, order processing, customer service, and network operations.

Ms. Fetter said Mr. Parks "brings a track record of successfully building large-scale information systems designed to increase productivity and enhance the customer experience."

He led integration efforts following the merger of Wells with Norwest Corp. He was also executive vice president of Wells Retail Credit Services, where he managed a staff of 1,700 responsible for providing systems and operations support to the bank's consumer banking group.

Before joining Wells Fargo, Mr. Parks was a senior vice president with Sabre Decision Technologies, a unit of AMR Corp. and American Airlines, and earlier worked with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Ford Motor Co.
