Capital Briefs: Big-Bank Group's Senior Lobbyist Resigns

that Alfred M. Pollard is resigning as its senior director for legislative affairs, effective Sept. 15.

Mr. Pollard does not have another job lined up but said his departure is voluntary. "I was interested in new opportunities," he said.

The Roundtable, which represents the 125 of the largest banking companies, has undergone many staff changes recently, including the hiring of former congressman Steve Bartlett as president in May. During the search, Roundtable members made it clear that they wanted to beef up the group's lobbying effort. Mr. Pollard was also recently passed over when the Roundtable promoted Richard M. Whiting to executive director. Until a successor is found, the Roundtable's director of regulatory affairs, Ed Hill, will direct the group's legislative efforts.

Mr. Pollard, 47, joined the Roundtable after two years with the Savings and Community Bankers of America, now known as America's Community Bankers, where he headed government relations. From 1981 to 1992, he was senior vice president for federal government relations at Security Pacific Corp., a Los Angeles predecessor of Bank of America Corp. -- Katharine Fraser
