State Financial Plans to Combine Charters

State Financial Services Corp. of Hales Corners, Wis., plans to combine the charters of four bank subsidiaries.

Two Wisconsin banks, State Financial Bank of Hales Corners and State Financial Bank Waterford, and two in Illinois, State Financial Bank of Richmond and Bank of Northern Illinois in Waukegan, will be consolidated under the name State Financial Bank by early next year. By late 2000 customers should be able to use any of its 16 branches.

State Financial's thrift subsidiary, Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Elgin (Ill.), will retain its own charter.

Michael J. Falbo, president and chief executive officer, said the $1.1 billion-asset holding company has been looking to cut costs and improve efficiency since it bought Bank of Northern Illinois two months ago.
