Cards Briefs: Trintech in Alliance to Enhance Payment Security

The secure-payment software company Trintech said it has formed a technical alliance with Intershop Communications Inc., a major international supplier of electronic commerce systems to on-line merchants.

The alliance gives Intershop customers the company has sold 20,000 store licenses access to an enhanced version of Trintech's Payware Net technology for accepting card payments on Windows NT and Unix operating platforms, using the Secure Electronic Transaction or Secure Sockets Layer protocols.

Trintech chief executive officer John McGuire said the tie-in addresses merchants' needs for "easy-to-implement storefronts that offer the strongest payment security available."

The integration of Payware Net "adds security and convenience to our electronic commerce applications," said Petra Vorsteher, vice president of business development and strategic alliances at Intershop, which has a customer list that includes Canon USA, Celestial Seasonings, Hewlett-Packard, Mercedes-Benz, and Silicon Graphics.

"Features such as the support of multiple currencies and payment types complement Intershop's technology and are essential for success in international markets," Ms. Vorsteher said.
