Short Takes: Schwab Adds Services For Smaller Investors

Charles Schwab & Co. lowered the threshold for brokerage customers to take advantage of the perks its Signature Services program offers.

A variety of extras, including referrals to investment managers independent of Schwab, are available to Signature Services accounts, which can now be accessed with a minimum investment of $100,000, rather than $500,000. The services are also open to customers who make at least 12 trades per year, down from the previous requirement of 24 trades per year.

Many Schwab customer accounts are nearing or have passed the $100,000 mark and "are looking for additional investment assistance," a spokesman said.
