Smart Bits: Trucking Industry Vendor Using Chip Cards

SmartStop Inc., a provider of fleet management technology to the trucking industry, has introduced a smart card system for payments, phone calls, and secure identification purposes.

SmartStop is combining contactless technology from On Track Innovations Ltd. with a national communications network. Applications on the card can be added, revised, expanded, and exchanged without replacing the card itself.

"The trucking industry has faced the challenge of finding a secure and economical way for fleets and drivers to communicate, make purchases, and transfer funds," said Lori Brown-Andersen, SmartStop's vice president of marketing and sales. "SmartStop's wireless/contactless card is innovative, easy-to-use, and will virtually eliminate fraud. Industry loyalty programs can also be integrated into our multi-application card."
