Smart Bits: RPK Security Has U.K. Licensing Agreement

RPK Security Inc., a provider of high-speed public key encryption technology, has announced a licensing agreement with a leading provider of point of sale terminals in the United Kingdom. The agreement enables Dione PLC to add RPK's Encryptonite Engine to its electronic payment systems and smart card readers.

"Our customers demand solutions with strong, real-time encryption," said Christopher Caruk, head of advanced technologies at Dione. "We selected RPK to enable us to securely update devices in the field and ensure the security of our on-line transaction systems in Internet e-commerce."

RPK said its Encryptonite Engine combines all the benefits of public key systems-authentication, digital signatures and certificates, key management-with the speed of a secret key system in one algorithm. Dione is able to "add RPK technology to existing and future generations of their devices without significant reengineering," said Jack Oswald, president and chief executive officer of RPK Security.

The company has a sales and marketing base in San Francisco and conducts research and development in New Zealand and Switzerland.
