Tech Bytes: Deal Combines Rivals In Integration Products

New Era of Networks Inc. has bought Vie Systems Inc. of Lyndhurst, N.J.

The two companies competed in enterprise application integration software, which connects heterogeneous computing environments. It eliminates the need to write code to bridge disparate systems.

A spokesman for the buyer, which is known as Neon, said the deal's benefits include Vie's flagship product, Copernicus, as well as technology talent, expanded geographic coverage, and a complementary client list.

Both companies are strong in financial services, and Vie adds market coverage in travel, transportation, and retailing.

Neon clients include Merrill Lynch & Co., Chase Manhattan Bank, and State Street Global Advisors. Vie Systems brings Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Cantor Fitzgerald Securities, and Capital Bank in the United Kingdom.
