Tech Bytes: Cybersafe Upgrade Has A Virtual Smart Card

Cybersafe Corp. said its TrustBroker Security Suite is available in an upgraded version that includes the option of a virtual smart card.

Designed to ensure secure access to corporate networks through user authentication, the firm said, the virtual smart card performs data encryption and authentication functions in software.

The company announced the upgrade along with an upgrade of its intrusion detection system, Centrax 2.2, during the Internet Security Conference in San Jose, Calif.

Advocates of high assurance generally prefer full hardware security, which would include smart cards and readers. But Cybersafe said it offers a more quickly deployed, lower-cost alternative.

It said TrustBroker version 2.0, also supports passwords, digital certificates, physical security tokens, smart cards, and other authentication methods.

"Our customers can now utilize TrustBroker on a broader range of platforms, with more robust features," said Jim Cannavino, CyberSafe's chief executive officer.
