SunTrust Banks Inc. said Thursday that it had completed its first bank acquisition since 2004, buying GB&T Bancshares Inc. of Gainesville, Ga., for $153.7 million.
The $179 billion-asset Atlanta company said it gained about $1.5 billion of deposits from the $1.9 billion-asset GB&T.
After closing 13 Atlanta-area branches, SunTrust will gain a net total of 17 branches.
SunTrust's last previous bank acquisition was in October 2004, when it bought National Commerce Financial Corp. of Memphis.
