Pivotal Payments, a merchant acquirer in Melville, N.Y., has agreed to purchase up to 33,000 payment terminals from Hypercom Corp.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., terminal maker said Thursday that Pivotal will deploy its Optimum countertop and mobile payment systems to merchant clients in Canada over the next 36 months.

Hypercom said its presence will expand significantly in Canada with the "multimillion-dollar" contract.

Earlier this month Hypercom announced another major contract, with the Brazilian merchant acquirer Cielo SA. It agreed to buy 30,000 of the company's Optimum T4205 point of sale terminals.
