Fifth Third Processing Solutions LLC is pilot testing a mobile check depositing service with Town and Country Bank in Salem, Mo., the Cincinnati payments processor said Tuesday.
Fifth Third, a joint venture of Fifth Third Bancorp and the private-equity firm Advent International Corp., is offering the service through a partnership with 3i Infotech Ltd. of India.
Fifth Third customers will have access to 3i Infotech's eCapture technology through the arrangement. 3i Infotech will also update the banks' core banking systems and validate check images for Check 21 compliance.
With the pilot test, Town and Country customers will be able to deposit checks by taking a picture of them with a smartphone and submitting them through 3i Infotech's application.
The application relies on imaging technology from Mitek Systems Inc., a San Diego vendor that licenses its product to several other vendors for check deposit apps.
