Stephen E. Dowd, the chief financial officer of CMS Bancorp in White Plains, N.Y., has died.
The $273 million-asset company announced Dowd's "unexpected passing" in a press release on Friday. Dowd died Wednesday; he was 60.
"Steve was a skilled professional, entrusted friend and adviser and an important member of the CMS family," John E. Ritacco, the president and chief executive of CMS, said in the release. "Since joining the company in 2005 as CFO, Steve has been an integral part of the company's success and we will miss him dearly."
Dowd was previously the chief financial officer of Leveraged Technology, a consulting firm focused on customer relationship management. He also worked as a senior audit manager at Ernst & Young.
Ritacco has assumed the CFO position temporarily, and succession planning is underway to appoint a new CFO or an acting one, according to the release.
