HSBC

- Diversity trends get tracked quarterly
Latin America took center stage for some of the key performances by women-led units. Among them, Katia Bouazza positioned HSBC as the region's top debt underwriter (11 percent of the market) as managing director and head of debit capital markets, while Debra Lodge, managing director of foreign exchange sales and strategy, led HSBC's successful entry into online FX trading in Latin America—similar to her work a decade ago in establishing HSBC on the Asian FX exchanges. Meanwhile, the pretax profits produced by Mary Duke, head of private wealth solutions for the Americas, far exceeded expectations, helped along by the integration of HSBC’s international insurance business with the insurance portfolio of the private bank.
Representation of female management and operating committee members is not as strong as at other banks—women account for just three of 18 senior executives, and 12 of 117 corporate officers. But the bank has been steadily improving on this front, with 25 percent of senior vice president roles belonging to women (up from 17 percent in 2008), and with a third of promotions above the senior vice president level going to women.
