New wheels for lifesavers: Credit unions in the community

New engine in town
A $10,000 donation from Hunt Valley, Md.-based Point Breeze Credit Union helped the Cockeysville Volunteer Fire Company cover the cost of its new fire engine. The vehicle holds a 1,000-gallon water reserve and replaces an older machine that was purchased in 2001.
Scholarly efforts
Livonia, Mich.-based Zeal Credit Union awarded a record $22,000 in scholarships to 11 members during its 65th annual membership meeting. The awards were primarily distributed to students, but an employee of the credit union also received a grant.
Keep on giving
Tucson Federal Credit Union awarded a total of $45,000 in its annual TFCU Gives program. The Tucson, Ariz.-based institution donated funds to Old Pueblo Community Services, the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Arizona and Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona.
Supporting women
In support of International Women's Day , Glendale, Calif-based Los Angeles Federal Credit Union donated purple clothing, the color donned on IWD, to pledge its support.
Seafood snacks
Members of Baton Rouge, La.-based Pelican State Credit Union feasted on 500 pounds of free crawfish in celebration of a new branch opening.
Shooting for scholarships
In its sixth annual sporting clays tournament, Baton Rouge, La.-based Neighbors Federal Credit Union is rallying to raise money for scholarships for the upcoming school year. The event last year yielded $30,000 worth of scholarships.
Starting off right
Spokane Valley, Wash.-based Numerica Credit Union was the recipient of the 2019 Children's Education Program of the Year for its "$tarting Off Right" financial literacy program.
Greater Eastern recognized
Greater Eastern Credit Union in Johnson City, Tenn., took second place for its community commitments in the Regional Business Excellence Awards.
New and improved
Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union celebrated the opening of its sixth branch in Houston earlier this year. The new branches have Interactive Teller Machines, among other technological upgrades.
Ready to work
To help assist women returning to the workplace, TruMark Financial Credit Union in Fort Washington, Pa.., launched a career clothing drive. Members joined forces with CU employees to donate professional clothing and accompanying accessories.
