BARTOW, Fla. - (03/13/06) A 41-year-old serial bankrobber who held a woman hostage after a January 2005 heist atMidFlorida CU, was sentenced Friday to 30 years behind bars. WesleyCaruthers was shot twice after a two-hour stand-off following thecredit union robbery, as he was convinced to free his hostage. Itwas the towns first bank robbery in 135 years. Caruthers wason probation when he robbed the credit union. Prosecutors asked fora stiff prison sentence because of Caruthers 18 priorconvictions for bank robberies.
