EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – A former security service employee on Friday pleaded guilty to helping plan the robbery of $195,000 last July 26 from his company’s armored car while it was making a cash delivery at Olin Community CU in nearby Alton.
Jermaine McIntyre, who worked for Garda Security Service, gave his accomplices uniforms and information, as well as the getaway cars that were used in the heist, authorities said. Another defendant supplied the two who carried out the robbery with wigs.
The two, dressed as Garda guards, used Mace to subdue one of the guards in the credit union parking lot as the armored car was delivering cash. Although both of the real guards were armed, no shots were fired.
The two fled in a car supplied by McIntyre and were chased by police as they tossed some of the cash out the window before they were captured.
All of the stolen cash was recovered.
McIntyre is one of three suspects to plead guilty in the case and a fourth is scheduled to plead guilty later this week.
