CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A former worker at Progressive Teachers CU yesterday was sentenced to three months in prison and nine months of house arrest for stealing $91,000 from the credit union after a federal judge rejected a plea that the 64-year-old defendant was too old to go to jail.

Margaret Burton told prosecutors she stole the funds from member accounts between 1998 and 2006 to pay her bills.
Burton made fictitious loan advances to credit union members and then diverted the funds to herself, according to prosecutors.
The judge said he wants Burton back working as soon as possible so she can begin reimbursing the credit union.
