A recognized expert in the real estate and financial services industries, Lereah said he's looking for a steady rise in existing-home sales. "After reaching what appears to be the bottom in the fourth quarter of 2006, we expect existing-home sales to gradually rise all this year and well into 2008." And that's part of the optimistic message he'll deliver to ACUMA's credit union mortgage specialists. "New-home sales should continue to slide, but we look for that sector to turn around later in the year," said Lereah.

"ACUMA has been working diligently these past few years to improve relations with the NAR," said ACUMA President Bob Dorsa. "An important step in getting closer to the nations realtors is to obtain their recognition about the competency in CU real estate lending," he added. Part of that plan was ACUMA's presence at the NAR conference in New Orleans last November.

The ACUMA Spring Conference will draw some 200-plus of the CU world's best RE experts, including loan officers and marketers who want to break the 2% barrier in the CU-world of real estate. Taking place at San Diego's historic Coronado Island Marriott Resort, on April 1-3, ACUMA will also present Debbie Allen, who will tell of her time-tested, proven success strategies to accelerate business growth for mortgage professionals. Also featured will be Bob Hoel, now a fellow in residence at the Filene Research Institute, speaking about reaching Gen X and Y.

In a panel discussion on how CEO leadership affects RE lending, Darren Williams, president of Wescom CU and Dave Doss, president of Arizona State Savings & Credit Union will give offer insights on how example sets the tone.

Other speakers include Dr. Tony Allesandra, on maintaining customer loyalty and building a sound business culture and Rob Northway, Manager of Mortgage Banking & Real Estate, McLagan Partners, Inc. McLagan Partners is the firm conducting the Salary & Compensation Survey for the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Northway will be talk about his theory on salary and compensation and provide a preview for this year's MBA study. ACUMA members will be invited to participate in the study, said Dorsa.
