BROOKLINE, Mass. – Medical Area FCU, a troubled, $75-million credit union, is proposing to merge into RTN FCU, a $720-million credit union based in the nearby Boston suburb of Waltham.
Medical Area FCU lost $1.2 million in 2011 and had 4% net worth at March 31.
The merger would give RTN, which has seven branches in Boston suburbs, two additional branches, one in Brookline and one in Dorchester.
Members of Medical Area will vote on the merger next week.
