At 10 a.m. a man armed with a handgun walked into the $157 million Preferred Credit Union office here, demanded cash and then fled with an undetermined amount of money, according local police.

The robber was not apprehended, and Paramount Charter Academy, located near the credit union, decided to lock down the school for 10 minutes.

School administration sent an e-mail to students' parents saying classrooms were locked, exterior windows covered and all students were accounted for.

The suspect is described as a black man with a small build, about five-feet-five to five-feet-eight inches tall, and was seen wearing a white, hooded sweatshirt with orange writing on the front, baggy jeans and white tennis shoes, police said. He was also wearing a blue backpack.
