HONOLULU – An elderly employee for an armored car company is accused of grabbing handfuls of cash for himself from Hickam FCU ATMs he was in charge of filling with money.
Sixty-eight-year-old Steven Dagli was charged in a federal grand jury indictment with stealing more than $73,000 from four credit union ATMs over a three-year period.
Dagli allegedly skimmed money in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 from ATMs serviced by his employer, Security Armored Car Service of Hawaii. The machines are owned by Hickam and are located in Pearlridge Center, Mililani and Hickam Air Force Base.
The scheme was detected last year when his employer conducted an audit after one of the machines ran out of money when it should not have.
The actual amount allegedly taken by Dagli could be as high as $164,000, according to authorities.
His former employer, Security Armored, has paid back the credit union for the money allegedly stolen.
